
Target Audience
Appropriate for personnel who are appointed as or wish to work as a Fire Safety Adviser (FSA).
Course Overview
- Teaches participants the skills and knowledge needed to assume the role and responsibilities of a Fire Safety Adviser in accordance with the Queensland Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008
- Equips participants with the skills and knowledge needed to advise on appropriate emergency planning and be familiar with all aspects of building fire safety
This course includes:
- Understanding legislation relating to fire safety
- Identifying fire safety installations and equipment in a building
- Developing an awareness of maintenance and records relating to fire safety
- Developing risk management strategies
- Emergency Planning Processes
- Conducting and Evaluating evacuation exercises and fire drills
- Operating emergency protection and emergency control equipment
A Fire Safety Adviser is required in all high occupancy buildings* listed in the Queensland Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008.
*(High occupancy is classified as: 30 or more employees; a Class 2 or 3 building that is more than 25m in height; or a Class 4 building or an at risk premises, as nominated by the Commissioner of Queensland Fire & Rescue Service).
Certification
- This is an accredited training course delivered by Winning Safety in partnership with Registered Training Organisation (21598) Salamander Fire Australia Pty Ltd.
- Upon successful completion of the course participants will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment in the following competencies:
- PUAWER001B Identify, prevent and report workplace emergencies
- PUAWER002B Ensure workplace emergency prevention procedures, systems and processes are implemented
- PUAWER003B Manage and monitor workplace emergency, procedures, equipment and other resources
- PUAWER004B Respond to workplace emergencies
- PUAWER005B Operate as part of an emergency control organisation
- PUAWER006B Lead an emergency control organisation
- PUAWER007B Manage an emergency control organisation
- PUAWER008B Confine small workplace emergencies
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for this course, however in this course you will need the literacy skills to:
- Read and interpret a range of printed and electronic documents
- Read and interpret standards, regulations and codes, analyse the information and develop a range of solutions
- Write reports and recommendations
- Use computers to research, write and email documents
- Be accountable for individual and group outcomes
- Communicate effectively and ethically as a member of a team and team leader
Attendance
There are a maximum number of 15 participants per session
Duration
16 hours. (2 x 8 Hour Sessions)

- Training courses can be delivered at your premises
- The training is specific to your location, equipment and personnel.

Additional Costs may be added at the time of invoicing, including:
- An additional per participant rate may be charged if more than 15 participants attend a program.(contact Winning Safety for current fee)
- A 20% surcharge may apply if training is delivered outside normal business hours (Mon-Fri 6:00am – 6:00pm)
- A charge covering travel and mobilisation expenses if the trainer needs to travel 50km outside the Brisbane office centre.
